At Lake Proctor State Park

Things to Do

If you are hoping to surround yourself with outdoor fun, your attention should turn to Lake Proctor first. While not the deepest lake by any means (Proctor's depth is around 34 feet), it's one of the most massive lakes near Comanche, making it a hotspot for summer tourism.

Amateur fishermen, casual trailblazers, and seasoned boaters alike will each find something to enjoy at Lake Proctor State park. Want to see it for yourself? Here's everything you need to know.

Beaches

If you've brought your boat, you can launch them at any of these beaches for a small fee. Make sure you have a current boating and fishing license. You can buy both of these online.

Promontory Point

Address: 7217 E Farm to Market Rd 2318, Comanche, TX
Fee: $35

While there are numerous public boat ramps scattered around the lake, Promontory is the most popular. The boat launch is affordable, and they offer boat rentals, kayak rentals, and paddleboard rentals as well for guests who haven't brought their own watercraft.

Copperas Creek Park

Address: 2000 FM1689, Comanche, TX

This is the closest beach to our campground, which might make it the most enticing option for beachgoers. If you like boating, there's a boat launch here so you can enjoy hours of lake bound activities.

Best Hiking Trails

While not the premier hiking spot, these easy trails are a great way to unwind after a day at the lake. The trail is great for children, seniors, and everyone in between.

High Point Trail

Distance: 1.8 miles
Difficulty: Easy

Located on the northern shore of Lake Proctor, High Point Trail allows you to take a brisk, 30-minute walk on the shores of the lake. It's a popular running trail, and some guests casually cycle around it if they brought a bike.

Cottonwood Circle

Distance: 1 mile
Difficulty: Easy

This dog-friendly trail is even shorter than High Point. It's perfect for pups and children. Birdwatching the Cottonwood Circle is also popular, as waterfowl are incredibly common in the area. The scissor-tailed flycatcher (a fairly common bird in the area) can be found on this loop. Bring your binoculars!
